If you are involved in a car crash, you would be fortunate to walk away unscathed. Yet, you might not realize the full extent of your injuries at the time.

If you sustain an injury, you may be eligible for compensation. Yet to do that, you need to know what injuries you have. Here are some of the most common injuries people sustain in a car accident.

Back and neck injuries

These can be in the form of sprains, fractures, ruptured discs, lumbar spine injuries, and thoracic spine injuries. Depending on the severity, a spinal injury cord injury (SCI) can result in paralysis or loss of function in one or both limbs or over a larger area of the victim’s body. However, a less severe injury can result in chronic pain as well as other debilitating problems.

Concussions

During the impact, you can easily hit your head on the roof or other parts of the car to result in a concussion. If this happens, you may experience memory problems, like an inability to remember what you were doing before the accident. You may also feel as if your brain is not working as it should. Prompt diagnosis and treatment of a concussion are important.

Internal injuries

Also known as soft tissue damage, these types of injuries affect the body’s connective tissues. They happen when the muscles, tendons or ligaments are strained or torn and can include bruises, sprains and strains. Some internal injuries may take days or even weeks to manifest.

No one expects to be involved in a car accident. However, if this happens, it is important that you are aware of possible injuries that you may sustain from the accident.
