After a car accident, pictures are important

If you get involved in a car accident, it may be wise to take pictures of the accident scene after the crash. Naturally, there are some cases where injuries may make this impossible. But, if you’re able to do so, taking pictures can help tremendously.

The overall goal of these photos is simply to document the scene so that you can show what happened. There may not be any other witnesses to the crash. You and the other driver may tell very different stories to the authorities. Because of this, having documented photo proof of the crash can make it easier to show who was at fault.

What types of pictures should you take?

It’s important to take a lot of different photos, if possible. Examples include:

  • Wide pictures of the entire accident scene
  • Photos of the nearby roads, street signs and other traffic controls
  • Pictures of the actual damage to the vehicles
  • Close-up shots of the accident to show how it occurred
  • Pictures of any injuries that may have happened
  • Photos of identifying information, such as the other driver’s license or their plates

If you have a dash cam, this also helps you to record the scene. Make sure that you save the video so that the dashcam doesn’t automatically overwrite it. You may also want to talk to nearby homeowners or business owners to see if the accident was captured on a security camera, a doorbell camera or something else of this nature.

Additionally, remember that those who are injured by other drivers may have a right to seek financial compensation. This can help to cover medical bills and other costs.
