Dax López
Biography
Dax López is a Partner at Prieto, DelCampo, Lopez, & Marigliano LLC, where he brings a wealth of trial experience and judicial insight to the representation of clients in high-stakes personal injury and complex civil litigation.
A former judge of the State Court of DeKalb County, Georgia, Dax presided over hundreds of jury trials in both criminal and civil matters during his nearly eleven years on the bench. As only the second Hispanic judge in the history of Georgia’s courts of record, he earned a reputation for fairness, efficiency, and thoughtful jurisprudence.
Since entering private practice, Dax has applied his deep courtroom experience to securing significant verdicts for injured clients. Soon after leaving the bench, he helped secure a $77.5 million medical malpractice verdict, the largest in Georgia history, and later played a key role in obtaining a $31 million wrongful death verdict—one of the largest ever awarded for an undocumented immigrant’s life in the state.
A native of Ponce, Puerto Rico, Dax earned his Bachelor of Arts in Political Science from Vanderbilt University and his Juris Doctor from Vanderbilt University School of Law, where he served as President of the Vanderbilt Bar Association and was an editor on the Vanderbilt Journal of Transnational Law. He began his legal career clerking for the Honorable Hector M. Laffitte in the U.S. District Court for the District of Puerto Rico.
Outside the courtroom, Dax has been widely recognized for his leadership and community involvement. He has served on the Board of the Georgia Association of Latino Elected Officials, as President of the Georgia Hispanic Bar Association, and on the State Bar of Georgia’s Board of Governors. In 2015, he was nominated by President Barack Obama to serve on the U.S. District Court for the Northern District of Georgia.
Dax is married to immigration attorney and former State Representative Zulma Lopez. Together they are the proud parents of four children: Roberto Carlos, Sebastian, Elisa and Leo. In his free time, Dax enjoys watching his favorite soccer player, Leo Messi, and one of his favorite teams, Atlanta United.
